A dream dashed for Mount Si fastpitch Posted on May 17, 2013 by Rhett Workman The dream of winning a state title ended yesterday for Mount Si’s softball team, as they were eliminated from postseason in heartbreaking fashion. Down 4-3 in the seventh, Bainbridge rallied to tie with a run in that inning to force extra innings, then scored once more in the eighth to hand Mount Si a 5-4 loss in a loser-out game at the SeaKing District Tournament in Seattle. The Wildcats, with the loss, miss out on state, which they had been a part of the past two seasons. Celine Fowler went 3-5 to lead Mount Si, and Tamarra Crowe, Lauren Smith and Paige Wetherbee all had two hits each to pace the Wildcats. Wetherbee went the distance in the circle, giving up all five runs, four of which were earned, on 15 hits, walking two and striking out eight. For Smith and Crowe, it was their last high school game, as both will be graduating and moving on to college. Mount Si, though, returns a full group next season, with Fowler, Rachael Picchena and Britney Stevens leading what will be a strong senior class. The Wildcats’ final record was 15-9 this season. Softball news... Posted on May 16, 2013 by Rhett Workman Mount Si’s softball team will need two wins today at the SeaKing District Tournament to advance to state, after splitting a pair yesterday. The Wildcats opened play at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle with a quick 10-0 rout of Ingraham. Paige Wetherbee and Bayley Barnett combined on a one-hitter, as Mount Si pounded out 15 hits. Wetherbee, Britney Stevens, Tamarra Crowe, Rachael Picchena, Nikki and Jenny Carroll all had two hits each. Crowe had a double as part of her efforts, and drove in four runs to lead the Wildcats. Mount Si fell to Holy Names last night 7-6 in a winner-to-state game to move into the loser out round where they meet Bainbridge today at 2:00. The Wildcats will need to win this game and win a second at 4:00 to advance to state. READ ARTICLE |

Coaches Corner: Week 11 - May 12, 2013 (WEEKLY FEATURE) I have heard it said before, regarding post season play, “that is what we do!” (Thank you Britney Stevens for that great quote) The question heading into the SeaKing District Softball Tournament is “Do we still believe that?” For the past two seasons, that has been the belief - that we simply go to the District Tournament and take our birth to the State Tournament. That mental state of mind will be a major contributing factor to whether we obtain that preseason goal. Whether the opponent is weak or strong, if WE as a team believe we can win, then we will win. Often, we mistakenly put to much emphasis on one particular team or one big game. I believe players (and coaches) should treat each game the same - understanding that we have done the work, we have practiced every scenario, every situation; we have prepared physically through solid practice. If we believe we are good enough to be successful, that is all the game prep we need. CONTINUE |
